Click, drool, repeat

I was sick last week and have thankfully recently recovered. However, as a result of post-sickness fatigue and finals stress, I've still been having trouble keeping food down. But I'm not pregnant, I promise! The lovely Brown Health Services told me I ought to follow a gastrointestinal diet for a while: loads of bland, textureless food which I can, thankfully, keep down. I have been making a gradual transition to more normal foods but it's still mostly soup in bread bowls, rice krispies cereal, and bananas for me. As a result of this lack of palatable excitement, I have been spending an inordinate amount of time on foodporndaily.com. This has, in turn, lead to a relapse of the craving for home-cooked food that comes with too much time spent in college dining halls.
Tempura fried salmon and asparagus wrapped in nori with citrus grain mustard, ikura and wasabi aioli
Wor wonton soup, char sui glazed duck breast, shrimp, snap peas, baby bok choy, shallot and scallion
Beef brisket pho with rich beef broth, rice noodles, fresh mint, cilantro and bean sprouts

I would do so much for real sushi or a big bowl of Chinese-style noodles with seafood or chunks of beef right now. If you think I'm exaggerating, think again. At the end of September my McDonald's craving was so unbearable that I walked three miles into the sketchy part of Providence just to order McNuggets. I am a hardcore fatass and the fact that I am unable to be one right now is so difficult to deal with.

Struggle City

It's a phrase that my good friend Hannah used one time a couple weeks ago and now I can't stop using it. And it's probably a pretty apt description of my morning. I was so prepared to go to my morning class for the first time since around Halloween. I even woke up early and showered (that effort alone was a struggle). But when the time came to leave, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I suddenly became acutely aware of the piles of dirty laundry that have been sitting here taunting me for the past three weeks or so--you see, I do my laundry only when i start running low on socks.

And so instead of going to the last chem lecture of the semester, I stayed in to do laundry. After that I got it into my head to try to take blog-y, outfit post-y shots. I must have been delusional to think that I could do that by myself with a 50mm lens and without a tripod. but here is the sad, sad product of that hard work, which involved me balancing my camera precariously on my roommate's dresser and tripping over her chair in the process of getting across the room before the timer ran out. the slight hunch in my pose is probably a result of the daggers of pain shooting through my toes.
Shirt - H&M. One of the most useful pieces in my wardrobe.
Earrings - Asos. Is it too hipster of me to be attracted to spikes?
My badass henna & the bracelet that Kathy, one of my best friends, made me last year.

After laundry, I noticed that I had yet to put up christmas decorations in my room. Which resulted in my falling off my desk several times in attempts to put them up. Whose bright idea was it to give college students rocking desk chairs anyway?

In other news: RIP Dr. Hermes Oz, you were a good beta fish.

Riot like an Egyptian

At the beginning of the year, I volunteered to help out in a photoshoot for my school's newly installed online fashion magazine, Unhemmed. the theme of the shoot was "protests" to keep up with the recent trend--Occupy Wallstreet, the London riots, and so on and so forth.

One of the models, Taryn, putting makeup on another one of the models, Maggie.
All of the clothes that had been brought for the shoot were laid out like animals for slaughter or a very strange art exhibit.
One of the stylists, my friend Taylor, and model Jen.

The girls were great to work with. all our models were volunteers who had brought their own clothing to the shoot. Everyone was very friendly even though it was probably a bit overwhelming for them to pose against a wall while four different cameras were clicking in their direction.

All of the girls together.

Gas masks may have been a stretch (they were there to symbolize rioters who wear them while throwing bombs), but they looked wicked.

It was a lot of fun--I'm always itching for opportunities to take artsy photos of artsy girls. Although it took more than five hours (two more than promised) on a hangover-y Sunday morning, it was well worth it.

Hello World

After years of simply posting slews of photos of what I like on tumblr, I figured I'd give a shot at actually putting words with said photos. And what could be a better time than right here right now, curled up in bed with a stomach virus on a lively college weekend night?

That being said, hi. My name is Jane. I like photos, taking photos, and dressing up. Although that last thing is getting harder and harder to do on a poor college student's budget.

So let's call this step one into this experiment that is my outfit post-inspirational art-photography dump blog.
