Mary and Ian: A Wedding in Bristol

Earlier this month I had the absolute honor of shooting Mary and Ian's wedding, which was held at the Chapel-by-the-Sea in Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island. Mary was the very first person to contact me after I decided to start getting into event photography and when I explained that I had never photographed a wedding before, she was incredibly understanding and kind. And so, Mary, I want to start off this post by thanking you for having faith in me and not immediately running away when I admitted my lack of experience! Your trust has been very valuable and has meant so much more to me than others might guess.

I almost died when I saw the huge grin on Ian's face as he watched Mary walk down the aisle.

The ceremony was small--only Mary and Ian's family members--and thus it had the most peaceful feeling of intimacy. I spotted many tears of happiness throughout the ceremony. I'm not sure how to describe the closeness of the two families other than that the entire evening seemed very comfortable, flowing with the kind of easiness that can only come from family members who clearly love each other very much.

Speaking of their families--they were so much fun to shoot! Everyone remained patient and cheerful as we went through the group family shots in spite of the stifling 95 degree weather. Even more delightful was how obliging they were when I called out for a "silly" shot.

Check out how cute Mary's parents are being at the top right.

Ian is the lead singer of a very cool hip hop/rock/electronic-y band called the Ontologics (Mary and Ian, if you're reading this, I must confess that I found out the name of Ian's band only after a bit of accidental online stalking) and Mary does photography and video for them! They laughingly told me that they actually hated being photographed but they were great sports about the whole process and I truly had a lot of fun shooting them.

Such a good-looking couple, right?

The reception was held in a private room at the lovely DeWolf Tavern. The details were so adorable--I especially loved the wedding cake toppers and the place cards at the table!

Before I left, I stole the couple away for a few extra minutes to take some final couple photos by the bay.

Mary and Ian--thank you for letting me record this special day for you! I will never ever forget this experience. I'm so happy that you two found each other and I wish you both the best of luck in the future!

Lauren and George: A Rehearsal Dinner in Newport

In June I had the pleasure of photographing Lauren and George's rehearsal dinner at the beautiful Regatta Place in Newport, RI. It had been depressingly rainy and grey all day, but just hours before the event was scheduled to begin, the sky magically cleared and the sun came out! Luck was on our side.

Lauren is such a cute, bubbly person and she was absolutely glowing all evening. It was so easy to photograph her--she never stopped smiling!

You should have seen the way Lauren and George kept sneaking glances at each other all night.

Lauren and George--I wish you all the best! Thank you for choosing me to be a part of your wedding weekend!
